Terms of use

1. What Beepline is. Beepline is a shot timer. It listens through your phone's microphone, sounds a start beep after a random delay, and times the shots it hears, so you can see your draw, your splits and your times against a par. It is a practice aid for the range and for dry fire. It is operated by CLC Agency ("we", "us").
2. Safety is yours, always. Beepline times shots. It does not supervise you, check your firearm, watch your muzzle or know what is downrange. Follow the rules of firearm safety, the rules of your range and the instructions of the range officers, every time. Treat every firearm as loaded, keep it pointed in a safe direction, keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target, and know what is beyond your target. Do not let the phone, the beep or your times take your attention off the firearm in your hands. If a drill or a par time would make you rush a shot you are not sure of, do not take it. Wear eye and hearing protection. You are responsible for everything you do with a firearm while using this app.
3. What it shows may be wrong. Beepline hears sounds; it does not see shots. It can miss a shot, count an echo, a voice, a neighbour's shot or a dropped case as a shot, and report a time that is not yours. Indoors, in a bay, with a suppressor, under electronic ear protection, in wind, or with several shooters on the line, it will be less reliable. A par beep is played through your phone's speaker and can be heard later than the time it was set for. Times are a practice aid and nothing more. Beepline is not a certified or approved timer and must not be used to record an official result, to score a sanctioned match, or to qualify anyone for anything.
4. Your part. You may use Beepline for yourself, on your own phones. Keep to the law where you are: owning, carrying, handling and shooting a firearm, and dry firing, are governed by rules that are yours to know and follow, and nothing in this app is advice about them or a substitute for proper instruction. Do not record other people without their knowledge, and do not use the app where recording or phone use is not allowed. Do not take the app apart, work around what the free version does not do, or use it to break the law.
5. Your data. Beepline keeps your strings, drills and settings on your phone. There is no account and we hold nothing. Audio from the microphone is examined as it arrives and is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. Backups and shared files are yours to make and yours to keep: write them where you choose, and keep a copy, because we cannot recover anything for you. The encrypted backup the free version writes is there to keep casual eyes off it and is not strong protection for secrets. Deleting the app deletes its data. The privacy policy is part of these terms.
6. Ads and Pro. The free app shows a small banner, supplied by Google AdMob, which may use an advertising identifier as the privacy policy describes. Pro is one purchase, made through the App Store or Google Play; their terms govern the payment and any refund, and we never see your card. Pro removes the banner and adds features. It does not make the timing more accurate. Prices can change; what you have bought stays bought.
7. Loud sounds and your phone. The beeps are played on the alarm channel, at whatever volume your phone is set to, and can be loud close to your ear. Set the volume before you start and protect your hearing. We are not responsible for damage to your hearing, your phone, your earphones or anything else from how the app is used.
8. No warranty. Beepline is provided as it is and as it is available, without warranty of any kind, as far as the law allows. We do not warrant that it is accurate, complete or available, that it will detect any shot, or that it suits a purpose of yours.
9. Our liability. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss, injury, death or damage that comes from using Beepline or from relying on what it shows, including anything that happens with a firearm. Where the law does not allow that, our liability to you is limited to what you paid us for Pro. Nothing in these terms limits a liability the law does not let us limit, and nothing takes away a right you have as a consumer under the law of your country.
10. Age. Beepline is for adults. If you are not old enough where you live to agree to terms of use on your own, a parent or guardian must agree for you, and must supervise any use of a firearm.
11. Changes. We may change these terms. The app asks you to agree again when they change. If you do not agree, stop using Beepline.
12. Ending. You may stop at any time by deleting the app. We may end the service, or your use of it, at any time.
13. Law. These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. A dispute goes to the courts of South Africa, unless the law of your country gives you the right to your own courts.

This is the same text the app shows. Beepline asks you to agree to it once, after the first-launch tour, and again whenever it changes; Settings → About → Terms of use keeps it to hand.
